BROWNSVILLE, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — DHR Health Brownsville is hosting a pink-themed ribbon cutting ceremony in honor of its newest mammogram unit.

With Breast Cancer Awareness Month just days away, this is the perfect opportunity to teach the community about the importance of regular breast cancer screenings.

DHR Health Brownsville is full of new and advanced technology that will be utilized to helping treat the patients of the Rio Grande Valley.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

This year, an estimated 310,720 women and 2,800 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.

While these numbers can be intimidating to see, when caught in its earliest localized stages, the five year survival rate is 99%. This is due to advances in early detection and treatment methods in recent years.

Today there are over 4 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

“DHR Health and DHR Health Brownsville encourage early detection through regular mammograms which can significantly increase survival rates,” DHR Health stated. “The new mammogram unit at DHR Health Brownsville is equipped with the latest technology to provide accurate and timely diagnoses, ensuring that more women in the community have access to life-saving screenings.”
