    Edinburg Police unit involved in accident, driver arrested, officer taken to hospital

    EDINBURG, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — An Edinburg Police Department unit was involved in an accident Saturday afternoon.

    According to a news release from the City of Edinburg, shortly after noon, an Edinburg police officer was hit on the driver’s side by a Ford F-150 at the intersection of 24th Avenue and Chapin Street.

    The officer was taken to a hospital and expected to recover. The driver of the F-150 was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, the release added.

    The eastbound and southbound traffic lanes have now reopened, city officials say.
