EDINBURG, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District hosted its bi-annual migrant recruitment initiative Monday morning.

Edinburg school leaders host the event each semester to recruit and encourage migrant families to be part of the district’s Migrant Education Program.

Each school semester, migrant clerks from various Edinburg campuses visit pre-selected neighborhoods to locate families who are eligible to join the program.

The goal of the program is to make sure migrant students benefit from the same free public education provided to other children.

“We’re here to provide a service the district can provide so and getting the families to feel comfortable,” said Patricio Escamilla, Migrant Program Education Coordinator with Edinburg CISD.

Escamilla says migrant families are welcome to join the program at anytime of the school year.

Information and resources on the Migrant Education Program can be found on the Edinburg CISD website.
