WESLACO, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office identified two suspects involved in case that turned into an officer-involved shooting.

Ubaldo Garcia, 31, and Felipe Rojas, 30, were arrested on charges related to the shooting.

The shooting happened Thursday morning shortly after 9 a.m. after a traffic stop turned into a pursuit.

Authorities were originally staking out a residence on the 1100 block of Owassa Road that was suspected of harboring drugs. Rojas was arrested at the residence, where a search warrant was conducted and narcotics were seized.

He was charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance after synthetic marijuana was found at the scene.

He received a bond of $40,000 for substance charges.

Garcia and another suspect were involved in an attempted traffic stop that took place by Tower Road and Owassa Road in Edinburg before leading deputies on a chase.

Investigators say Garcia was behind the wheel, lost control of the vehicle and rolled over onto a crop field west of FM 88 on Mile 13 N. Rd. in Weslaco.

After the crash, the responding deputy approached the crashed vehicle inside the field and stated he heard gunshots.

The deputy then discharged his weapon and shot one of the suspects in the leg, authorities say.

The suspect who was shot remains hospitalized for his injury and has not been named.

Garcia was booked on charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer, assault on a peace officer, evading arrest and resisting arrest. He was issued a $100,000 bond for all four charges and remains at the Hidalgo County Jail.
