BROWNSVILLE, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — A Cameron County Sheriff’s deputy Thursday arrested a 17-year-old for reckless driving.

According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy was patrolling the area of FM 803 and Highway 100 and noticed a black passenger vehicle failed to signal for a lane change.

The deputy then noticed the vehicle rapidly accelerate, exceeding speeds of over 100 miles an hour, passing vehicles in the center lane with disregard for the safety of persons or property, the news release stated.

The deputy caught up to the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Jesus Antonio Silva.

While making contact with Silva, the deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Silva was placed under arrest for reckless driving and was also charged with possession of marijuana after a blue grinder with marijuana was found inside the vehicle.

He was transported to the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center where he was booked for those charges.

He is most likely hanging out with the wrong crowd. He is too young to be doing bad choices. May Father God guide him to friendships that will be a positive impact on him and his future. May this be a learning experience.
