HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The VA Health Care Clinic in Harlingen and the RGV Food Bank on Thursday will hold a free drive-thru food distribution for veterans.

The event is open to veterans enrolled in health care at the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System. They must present a valid VA identification card to confirm their Veteran status.

“Not having enough to eat can lead to physical and mental health conditions and increase a veteran’s risk of suicide. Our food distribution events are just one way VA is tackling this very serious issue,” said Public Affairs Officer Hugo Martinez. “If you’re a Veteran in need, VA is here for you.”

The event is set for Thursday, Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. until supplies last at the Harlingen VA Health Care Center at 2601 Veterans Drive.

For more information about the food distribution event please contact Voluntary Services at (956) 291-9093.

Veterans who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness are strongly encouraged to contact the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at 877-4AID-VET (877-424-3838) for immediate assistance.
