Clarke Sends Perry Home With Loss
The Bluejays fell last night in Osceola to Clarke. The Indians picked up the 10-2 win. Clarke jumped all over Perry pitching as they scored in every inning. The Bluejays offense would score their first run of the game in the fourth. The Indians had already pulled ahead, 5-0, when that happened. Clarke grabbed their first win over the Bluejays. Perry had won the previous 7 match ups. This is the third straight loss and the Bluejays have given up over 10 runs in all of them.

Reminder of Ordinances for Fireworks in Guthrie County
The Fourth of July may have passed, but some may still be celebrating with fireworks. Residents of the main towns in Guthrie County need to remember what their town’s ordinances are for fireworks. For Stuart, fireworks are allowed from June 1st to July 8th, and can only be lit on private property. Additionally, fireworks can only be shot off between the hours of 9am and 10pm, except for July 4th and the Saturdays and Sundays directly preceding and following the holiday, when they are allowed between 9am and 11pm for Stuart residents to remember. Guthrie Center and Panora both do not permit fireworks within city limits.
Katie and Guy Richardson Selected as July Yard of the Month
The Jefferson Garden Club has announced its next Yard of the Month. Katie and Guy Richardson’s home at 608 South Chestnut Street is July’s honoree. In the front part of the lot are large beds of roses, miniature boxwoods, day lilies and hostas that were planted over 15 years ago. There are also corner pillars that have geraniums, and shrubs surround the front porch of the home that was built in 1912.
Big Red In Attendance for Perry’s 4th of July Celebration
The Perry Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual 4th of July town celebration today. Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti notes that the day will be full of different activities for families to enjoy. The 4th of July Parade is kicking the festivities off at 10am, starting at East Perry Plaza, then going two miles along Willis Avenue before turning on West 3rd Street towards Pattee Park.

We learned from Iowa PBS that early in its journey, the U.S. Congress set up a roadmap for western lands to become states, remembering how the American colonists weren't exactly fans of British rule (cue the Revolutionary fireworks). One of their star acts was the Northwest Ordinance of 1787. It gave a how-to guide for places like Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin to join the statehood club.

GTSB Reminds Drivers No One is a Good Drunk Driver this July 4th Weekend
(Iowa) – As Iowans commemorate Independence Day, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) has one critical message, “No One’s a Good DRUNK Driver.” In 2022, a person lost their life every 39 minutes in alcohol-related crashes on U.S. roads. From July 3 to July 7, law enforcement statewide will heighten vigilance against drunk driving on our roads.
