The Hops rode strong pitching performances from starter Ricardo Yan and reliever Listher Sosa who combined to allow just four hits in the first of the day’s two seven-inning games. <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> Yan was particularly impressive, throwing 4.2 shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out nine. Hillsboro got both of their runs in the fourth inning when Gavin Conticello plated Christian Cerda and Kevin Graham with a double to right field. Andrew Pintar led the Hops with two hits in the game. In the second game of the twin bill, Hillsboro came back from an early 3-0 deficit, then held on late to secure their 5-4 win and two-game sweep. Vancouver struck first in the game, plating three in the second inning on a Glenn Santiago three-run double to right field. Hillsboro responded however with four runs in the third inning, notably led by Jesus Valdez’ three-run homer to left center field, then added a fifth and final run an inning later on a Tommy Troy RBI-single. <nbtemplate data-id="AdPlaceholder" data-content="JTdCJTdE"></nbtemplate> Vancouver’s Cade Doughty hit a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull the Canadians within one run, but Peniel Otano shut the home team down over the final 1.1 innings to clinch the Hillsboro win. Both starting pitchers, Hillsboro’s Eli Saul and Vancouver’s Kevin Miranda struggled, with Saul allowing three runs over his two innings, and Miranda allowing four runs over his three innings. Despite the two teams combining for 16 hits, no one on either team managed multiple hits. With the wins, Hillsboro took a 2-1 edge in the series.
