Man sentenced in prison break and fatal brawl among soccer fans outside cheesesteak shop
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A man convicted of helping two other men escape prison while he was in custody for a fatal brawl among soccer fans in Philadelphia has been sentenced in both cases. Court documents indicate 36-year-old Jose Flores-Huerta was sentenced Thursday to 11 1/2 months to 23 months for aiding the May 2023 escape from the Philadelphia Industrial Correction Center. Flores-Huerta and another man also were sentenced to similar terms in the fatal brawl outside Pat’s King of Steaks restaurant in September 2021. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the two expressed remorse through an interpreter.

WASHINGTON − U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern recently named Brian Pearl, a native of Canton, Mo., as the agency’s deputy director. Pearl graduated from Canton R-V High School. He will serve in the agency’s second highest-ranking position as its chief operating officer. In addition to other responsibilities, Pearl will oversee GPO’s operations division, which includes plant operations, security and intelligent documents, official journals of government and customer services. These business units are responsible for GPO’s most important products including the U.S. passport, Congressional Record, Federal Register, White House print materials, secure federal credentials and other congressional and executive branch products and services.

The Columbia Police Department has found 16-year-old Abigail Nelson. In a Facebook post, CPD asked the public for help to locate Nelson. Police reported Nelson was last seen Saturday, July 20, at approximately 10:45 p.m. in the 4100 block of South Wapple Drive.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities say three men were killed and six other people wounded in an early morning shootout during a gathering in west Philadelphia. Police said more than 100 people were present in the Carroll Park neighborhood when gunfire broke out just after 2 a.m. Sunday. Police said their preliminary information indicated “an exchange of gunfire between multiple parties.” Police said a 33-year-old man who died at the scene appeared to have been targeted, and two other men aged 23 and 29 were pronounced dead at a hospital. A 26-year-old woman and five men ranging in age between 27 and 30 were listed in stable condition. No arrests were immediately reported.
