Japanese boyband One or Eight has made its official launch with the release of “Don’t Tell Nobody” along with an accompanying music video.

“Don’t Tell Nobody” is written and produced by OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder and Dave Stewart, with a rap penned by Lucien Parker. The song, a fusion of hip-hop and pop, serves as an introduction to the eight-piece band, which consists of Mizuki, Neo, Reia, Ryota, Souma, Takeru, Tsubasa and Yuga. One or Eight’s name is inspired by a Japanese phrase that means “all or nothing,” while the group’s tagline is “bet on yourself.”

The Tokyo-based group initially launched in June with a performance video of “Kawasaki,” inspired by the Japanese brand. That video racked up six million views in five days, and has since gone on to amass 10 million clicks. That track was produced by DJ Smallz 732, Gent!, Bangs and Xansei, with a subsequent rap inked by Parker.

One or Eight is backed by Japanese entertainment company Avex in partnership with Brandon Silverstein’s S10. “At Avex, we embrace challenges and respect the U.S. music culture,” shared Takeya Ino, president of labels at Avex Japan. “Utilizing the creative networks we’ve built in the U.S., our members are ready to embody the spirit of ‘all or nothing’ after years of preparations. We hope One or Eight’s music resonates with audiences across the U.S.”

CEO of Avex USA Naoki Osada added, “We’re thrilled to present One or Eigt as a first of its kind collaboration that combines the musical, cultural, and innovative resources between the US and Japan branches of Avex, launching a lasting mission for a new generational hybrid model to push Japanese music as a global phenomenon.”

Stewart, who worked on “Don’t Tell Nobody,” said, “Loved working with the lads! Incredible vocals and super versatile. A very talented crew.”
