‘American Trash’ Acquired by Deep C Digital: Robert LaSardo’s Directorial Debut Features Late Tom Sizemore

Deep C Digital has secured North American rights to “American Trash,” a crime thriller set for release on cable and digital platforms Sept. 10.

The film marks the directorial debut of Robert LaSardo, known for his roles in “Nip/Tuck” and “The Mule.” It also includes one of the final performances by “Saving Private Ryan” actor Tom Sizemore who died in 2023 .

“American Trash” is set against the backdrop of a social crisis in a deteriorating Los Angeles, where environmental decay, chaos, and a rampant drug epidemic have taken hold. The film follows Milles Carpis, portrayed by LaSardo, as he navigates this landscape. After the murder of the woman he loves, played by Lorelei Linklater (“Boyhood,” “Bomb City”), Carpis seeks solace and guidance from a group of new age hippie friends. As he struggles to avoid violence, he turns to Detective Anderson, played by Costas Mandylor (“Picket Fences,” “Saw” franchise), to help him track down the killer.

The film is executive produced by LaSardo, with producers Josh Webber and Diana Ramos-Santiago Carter. The deal for North American rights was negotiated by John Kim, CEO of Deep C Digital and Webber Films.

LaSardo said: “I aimed to create a film that captures my deep affection for Los Angeles, a city I’ve grown to love over the years. Once a beacon of sunshine and dreams, I felt it was deteriorating into something harsh and perilous. I wanted to tell a story that highlights this change and brings attention to the realities beyond Hollywood.”

Webber added: “I’m incredibly proud of the film Robert has crafted for his directorial debut. He met every challenge with great wisdom, and I’m excited for the world to experience it through his lens.”
