‘Librarians: The Next Chapter’ Moves to TNT From CW

“The Librarians: The Next Chapter” is heading home to TNT.

The spinoff series was originally slated to air on The CW this fall, but it was reported last week that the show had been pulled from the broadcaster’s schedule.

Now, the Wall Street Journal reports that the series will air on TNT instead. It marks a homecoming of sorts for the series, which serves as a followup to the series “The Librarians,” which was itself a spinoff of the “Librarian” TNT film series starring Noah Wyle. The original series aired for four seasons, while there were three entries in the film series.

No premiere date for “The Next Chapter” has been set at the time of this publishing. As with the original series and films, the show centers on the people responsible for maintaining the mythical Library, which serves as a storehouse for powerful and dangerous artifacts.

“The Next Chapter” stars Callum McGowan, Jessica Green, Olivia Morris, and Bluey Robinson.

Per the official logline, the new series centers on Vikram (McGowan), “a Librarian from the past, who time traveled to the present and now finds himself stuck here. When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent. He is given a new team to help him clean up the mess he made, forming a new team of Librarians.”

Dean Devlin is the showrunner and executive producer alongside Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson of Electric Entertainment. Wyle also serves as executive producer. Mark Franco of Electric Entertainment and Jonathan English of Balkanic Media also produce.

This also marks a return to scripted series for TNT, which has not aired any new original shows since the Warner Bros. Discovery merger wiped out all scripted fare at the basic cabler. The network has also greenlit the miniseries “Debriefing the President,” which tells the story of the interrogation of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein following his capture by U.S. forces in 2003.
