“Game of Thrones” creator and author George R. R. Martin has revealed in a new blog post that he’ll soon write about “everything that’s gone wrong with” the HBO’s spinoff series “House of the Dragon,” which finished airing its second season earlier this month.

Martin has used his personal blog over the years to give updates on “House of the Dragon” production, his long-delayed “Winds of Winter” book and other thoughts. But this is the first time his tone has shifted toward HBO’s “House of the Dragon” prequel, which is based on his “Fire & Blood” novel.
“I do not look forward to other posts I need to write, about everything that’s gone wrong with HOUSE OF THE DRAGON… but I need to do that too, and I will. Not today, though. TODAY is Zozobra’s day, when we turn away from gloom,” Martin wrote Friday in a blog post that was about attending the Burning of Zozobra festival in Santa Fe, N.M., and his other summer travels.
“It is Santa Fe’s way of devouring the darkness, to clear the way for the light and joy that will hopefully mark the new year. And believe me we need that, more than ever before,” he added. “The world, the country, and yes, certainly me. This has not been a good year for anyone, with war everywhere and fascism on the rise… and on a more personal level, I have had a pretty wretched year as well, one full of stress, anger, conflict, and defeat. I need to talk about some of that, and I will, I will… I was away from my computer traveling from July 15 to August 15, so a lot of things that needed saying did not get said.”
The criticism may come as a surprise to some given that Martin, who’s a co-creator and executive producer on “House of the Dragon,” took to his blog midway during Season 2’s run to praise the fourth episode, “The Red Dragon and the Gold,” for staging an eye-popping dragon battle.
“Has there ever been a dragon battle to match it?” Martin asked his readers. “I seem to recall that ‘Reign of Fire’ had a few scenes where a dozen dragons were wheeling through the skies. So, okay, maybe that was a bigger scene, with more dragons on screen…but a better battle? I don’t think so. Our guys knocked this one out of the castle.”

However, in the same post Martin did acknowledge one point of contention he had with “House of the Dragon” in that it used the incorrect sigil for House Targaryen. The correct sigil features a two-legged dragon while the show features a four-legged one.
“They went with the bad sigil rather than the good one,” Martin wrote at the time. “That sound you heard was me screaming, ‘No, no, no.’ Those damned extra legs have even wormed their way onto the covers of my books, over my strenuous objections.”
Some fans were disappointed with the Season 2 finale, which ended on a similar cliffhanger to Season 1, teasing an all-out Targaryen war between the Green and Black factions. Season 2 was also cut down to eight episodes, after the 10-episode Season 1 — which left many fans wanting more battles in the sophomore season.
Martin was complementary of “House of the Dragon” going into Season 2. He took to his blog after watching the first two episodes of the season to tell his readers that “both episodes were just great. Dark, mind you. Very dark. They may make you cry. (I did not cry myself, but one of my friends did.) Powerful, emotional, gut-wrenching, heart rending. Just the sort of thing I like. (What can I say? I was weaned on Shakespeare, and love the tragedies and history plays best of all.)”
“House of the Dragon” is already renewed for a third season and the plan is for the show have a fourth and final season.
