Former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is returning with the last comedy special of her career.

“Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval” will premiere globally on Sept. 24 on Netflix. According to the comedian herself, this will mark the last comedy special of her career. She will also discuss being “kicked out of show business” after her daytime talk show ended after allegations of intimidation, racism and sexual misconduct.

“To answer the questions everyone is asking me — Yes, I’m going to talk about it. Yes, this is my last special. Yes, Portia really is that pretty in real life,” DeGeneres said in a statement.

The Netflix logline reads: “For the first time in six years, Ellen DeGeneres returns to the stage in her new comedy special ‘Ellen Degeneres: For Your Approval.’ The final comedy special of her historic career, Ellen gets personal and reveals what she’s been doing since being ‘kicked out of show business.’ From the mundane world of raising chickens and parallel parking to the harsh reality of becoming a brand-name celebrity, she goes deep into her stand-up roots and brings laughs through life’s most real and absurd realities.”

DeGeneres had a previous’s Netflix special, “Relatable,” in 2018. She produces the new special with Ben Winston, Fulwell 73 Productions and her wife, Portia de Rossi. Joel Gallen will direct it.

Earlier this year, DeGeneres returned to the stage for her stand-up comedy tour, “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up Tour,” where she took significant time to address the controversy around her talk show that began with an internal investigation of poor working conditions on the show.

The Emmy-winning daytime talk show “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” ended in May 2022 after nearly 20 years on the air. Its finale came after a series of reports detailing allegations of racism, sexual misconduct and intimidation on set, while Variety reported on legacy crew members’ frustrations with how the production handled compensation during the COVID pandemic. DeGeneres gave an on-air apology, and three producers were fired after WarnerMedia conducted an internal investigation.

Since the talk show’s conclusion, DeGeneres has kept a much lower profile. “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up Tour” represents her biggest entry into the public eye after two years, with shows planned through the coming months.
