Shaboozey’s ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ Is the Longest-Running No. 1 Single of Year (So Far)

Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is the longest-running No. 1 song in the United States this year, claiming a ninth (non-consecutive) week at No. 1 atop the Billboard Hot 100. Sabrina Carpenter, meanwhile, continues to dominate the majority of the top five slots on the same chart, with three singles — “Espresso,” “Please Please Please,” and “Taste” — occupying No.s 3, 4 and 5, respectively.

The Hot 100 has been ruled by fresh talent for a majority of 2024 — Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Teddy Swims and Benson Boone, to name a few — making Shaboozey’s No. 1 streak a fitting feat for the year. The country single, which interpolates J-Kwon’s 2009 single, “Tipsy,” was also the first song by Black male artist to simultaneously top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs (where it leads for a 13th week) and Hot 100 charts after its strong debut on the latter in April.

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” leads with nearly 78 million radio airplay impressions and 30 million official streams, according to data from Luminate. The song was also nominated as single of the year at the 58th annual CMA Awards , while Shaboozey himself was recognized in the new artist category.

Carpenter also achieves the triumph of being the second act – and first solo singer – to chart her first three top five hits in the sector simultaneously for multiple weeks. Only the Beatles have claimed three top five hits for a staggering five weeks in 1964 (“I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “She Loves You” and “Please Please Me”).

All three songs appear on Carpenter’s new album, “Short n’ Sweet,” which leads the Billboard 200 albums chart for a second week with 159,000 units and 168.45 million official streams.

The only new releases on the Billboard 200 come from Le Sserafim and Destroy Lonely, at Nos. 7 and No. 10, respectively.  Le Sserafim’s “Crazy” enters with 47,000 equivalent album units earned as the K-pop group’s third top 10-charting album. American rapper Destroy Lonely’s “Love Lasts Forever” becomes his first top 10-charting LP with 37,500 equivalent album units earned and 25 million streams.
