‘Good Omens’ Final Season Suspends Production Following Neil Gaiman Assault Allegations

Prime Video has halted production on the final season of “Good Omens.” The decision comes two months after series creator and showrunner Neil Gaiman was accused of sexual assault by several women.

The series, which stars Michael Sheen and David Tennant as a BFF angel-and-demon duo, was preparing to shoot in Scotland before the streamer elected to pause the production to consider changes. Amazon declined to comment.

Adapted from the 1990 novel that Gaiman co-authored with Terry Pratchett, “Good Omens” is the latest Gaiman adaptation to lose momentum as the author faces allegations of sexual assault. Last week, it was reported that “The Graveyard Book,” a feature adaptation of Gaiman’s 2008 novel with Marc Forster attached to direct, had paused development at Disney.

In a July report by Tortoise Media, Gaiman was accused of sexually assaulting a then-18-year-old woman (referred to as K) in 2003, and a 23-year-old woman named Scarlett in 2022. Gaiman has denied any unlawful behavior with K. Scarlett alleges that Gaiman sexually assaulted her in a bath at his New Zealand home, where she worked as his child’s nanny. The latter incident spurred a police complaint against Gaiman in New Zealand, where an investigation is currently underway by authorities.

“Good Omens” first debuted on Prime Video in 2019. Originally intended as a limited series, the program’s popularity spurred a greenlight for a second season, based on an idea that Gaiman says he discussed with co-author Pratchett before his death in 2015. After Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger, the series was later renewed for a third and final edition. Gaiman has a first-look deal at Amazon MGM Studios

News of production halting on “Good Omens” was first reported by Deadline.
