Michael B. Jordan has selected his sophomore directorial effort, opting to helm a reimagining of “The Thomas Crown Affair.” Jordan had already been reported to be starring in the Amazon MGM Studios production back in 2016.

“Thomas Crown Affair” will get a worldwide theatrical release. Jordan is producing via his Outlier Society banner alongside Elizabeth Raposo. Plot details are under wraps, but Jordan will direct from a script by Drew Pearce. A previous draft was written by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson, which was based on the original 1968 film starring Steve McQueen.

Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff will also serve as producers on “Thomas Crown Affair.” Alan Trustman, writer of the 1968 film, is an executive producer. This new movie is the third version of the classic romantic heist story, after the 1999 remake starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo.

Outlier Society has both a first-look film deal and overall television deal with Amazon MGM Studios under which Jordan starred, produced and directed “Creed III.” The boxing threequel was a hit, opening to a franchise record $58.6 million domestic gross and ultimately earning $276 million at the worldwide box office.

In a profile ahead of his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony last year, Jordan told Variety that making “Creed III” was a “transformative experience — as a man, as a director, as an actor, as a son, as a brother.” Despite all that he’s achieved in his career thus far, the superstar felt he had something to prove.

“I still feel like an underdog,” he said. “I feel like I just got here, like I’ve just arrived, and I have the tools and the things around me to really be on the offensive a little bit.”

Jordan has certainly kept his foot on the gas, with a slate full of projects in development over the years, including the next John Clark movie “Rainbow Six” and a sequel to “I Am Legend” with Will Smith on the horizon. More immediately, Jordan reteamed with longtime collaborator Ryan Coogler (“Fruitvale Station” and the “Creed” and “Black Panther” franchises) for a mysterious original genre movie , which spawned an intense bidding war. The movie shot in Louisiana earlier this year and has been slated for a March 7, 2025 IMAX release by Warner Bros.

Jordan is repped by M88 and WME. Deadline was first to report news of his directing deal.
