French animation producer La Cabane Productions has unveiled key voice casting and writing talent additions to its animated TV special project “A Lamb’s Stew” and released a first teaser that will be screened during a pitch at Cartoon Forum in Toulouse.

Today’s teaser release unveils the casting of British actor T’Nia Miller (“Years and Years,” “Sex Education”) and introduces 11-year-old newcomer Iris Onyejiuwa in the lead role of Billie. La Cabane has also recruited Julia Smuts Louw as story editor for the production, which is written and directed by Joeri Christiaen.

Smuts Louw is an accomplished animation writer who recently adapted the International Emmy and Annecy-winning made-for-tv movie “The Smeds and the Smoos” and penned the “Star Wars: Visions” season two episodes “Aau’s Song.”

“A Lamb’s Stew” boasts feature-quality CG animation with a tactile, stop-motion aesthetic that helps enhance the story’s fairy tale feeling. The woolly look of the animal fur and some well-executed lighting make it feel as if one could reach out and play with the characters like they were toys from a kids’ playroom.

The official synopsis for the project reads: “Determined to prove that sheep are just as brave as other animals, a young lamb sets out to lure a wolf into a trap, only to discover that he isn’t the monster she thought he was. Through the story of Billie, a young and rebellious lamb who decides to confront a big bad wolf, the film questions how preconceived ideas shape our worldview and invites us to embrace individuality. Don’t judge a sheep by its wool, nor a wolf by its fur!”

“A Lamb’s Stew” is a 30-minute TV special produced by La Cabane and Thuristar, directed towards a children and family audience. The project has already received backing from the European Union’s Creative Europe Media program and will surely be one of the hot titles at this year’s Cartoon Forum.

Founded in 2015, La Cabane quickly established itself as one of the most exciting studios in France, and by 2020, it had been nominated for French TV Producer of the Year. The company has produced the International Emmy-nominated series “Mush-Mush & the Mushables” and the standout animated short “Luce and the Rock,” which won awards at GLAS, Anima – Brussels and got a jury special mention at the Berlinale.
