    HBO Unveils Trailer for Seth Meyers Comedy Special ‘Dad Man Walking’ (TV News Roundup)

    HBO has released the trailer for Seth Meyers’ new comedy special “Dad Man Waking,” which premieres Oct. 26 on HBO and Max.

    According to an official logline, Meyers’ first HBO stand-up special sees him shift “focus to his personal life – from the chaos of raising three young kids, to navigating different communication styles in marriage, to the proper way to cross the street in New York City. Taped at The Vic Theatre in Chicago, ‘Seth Meyers: Dad Man Walking’ showcases Meyers’ effortless conversational style as he offers up hilarious reflections on family, generational legacies, and why his kids provide the best material for his comedy.”

    Neal Brennan serves as director. Executive producers include Meyers, Mike Shoemaker, Tim Sarkes and John Irwin. Chelsea Alonzi produces.

    FIRST LOOKS/TRAILERS

    Documentary+ FAST channel, in a joint venture with TV studio XTR and Rolling Stone Films, has announced the first slate of documentary shorts from their partnered productions.

    The initial collection includes five short documentary features, all to be released in the coming months. These include the 2023 Oscar shortlist “Wings of Dust,” the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival debut “All Things Metal,” the working title “Blood and Ashes,” “Mamus,” and a final film yet to be listed.

    “Wings of Dust,” set for release on Oct. 10, follows Indigenous journalist Vidal Merma as he exposes the mine-contaminated waters of the Peruvian community of Espinar. “All Things Metal,” arriving Oct. 24, follows the Patterson brothers in their family-owned ironwork business, which doubles as a heavy metal music video set at night. “Blood and Ashes,” expected by mid-November, chronicles Haiti’s descent into chaos, the G9 gang alliance, and the rise of Barbecue. Finally, “Mamus,” slated for mid-December, offers an intimate portrait of the Arhuaco Indigenous community in Colombia, which in 1990 decided to make contact with the outside world to warn of the consequences of industrialization.

    Season 3 of the Max original comedy “The Sex Lives of College Girls” is returning to the platform on Nov. 21.

    The show was created by Emmy-nominated writer and producer Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble. It follows a group of college friends as they attempt to figure out the confusing dating dynamics at their college campus, a prestigious New England university called Essex College.

    The returning cast consists of Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Alyah Chanelle Scott, Christopher Meyer, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Renika Williams, Gracie Lawrence, and Mia Rodgers.

    Peacock has released the official trailer for “The Day of the Jackal,” which will premiere with five episodes on the streamer Nov. 14, followed by weekly installments and a double-episode finale Dec. 12.

    “An unrivaled and highly elusive lone assassin, the Jackal, (Eddie Redmayne) makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee. But following his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer (Lashana Lynch) who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake,” the show’s logline teases.

    In addition to Redmayne, the cast also includes Lashana Lynch, Úrsula Corberó, Charles Dance, Richard Dormer, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O’Neill, Nick Blood, Sule Rimi and Florisa Kamara.

    Sony Pictures Television has revealed the teaser trailer for “Goosebumps: The Vanishing” starring David Schwimmer. The new season of the horror anthology series premieres all eight episodes Jan. 10, 2025, on Disney+ and Hulu.

    According to the official synopsis, “’Goosebumps: The Vanishing’ begins when twins Cece (Jayden Bartels) and Devin Brewer (Sam McCarthy) are sent to spend a summer in Gravesend, Brooklyn, with their divorced dad. A threat is stirring, and they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, Cece, Devin and their friends — Alex (Francesca Noel), CJ (Elijah M. Coope) and Frankie (Galilea La Salvia) — find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.”

    Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman developed “Goosebumps: The Vanishing” with showrunner Hilary Winston. The trio serves as executive producers with Neal H. Moritz, Scholastic Entertainment’s Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman, Pavun Shetty, Conor Welch, Erin O’Malley, Karl Frankenfield and James Eagan.

    “American Dad!” returns to TBS on Monday, Oct. 28, at 10 p.m. ET. The recurring animated sitcom follows CIA agent Stan Smith and his unconventional family through their misadventures in Langley Falls, Va.

    In the upcoming season, the Smiths face a wide range of challenges which include a nightmarish attempt to climb Mount Everest, the reopening of the Langley Falls boardwalk, Roger falling ill with a mysterious condition, and Klaus facing an imposter.

    Joining the main cast — Seth MacFarlane, Wendy Schaal, Scott Grimes, Rachael MacFarlane, Jeff Fischer, Dee Bradley Baker and Patrick Stewart — are guest stars Kevin Bacon, Charles Barkley, Bret “The Hitman” Hart, Gabriel Iglesias, Michael Imperioli, Leslie Jones, Neal McDonough, Joel McHale and Kyra Sedgwick.

    Additionally, Oct. 25, Hollywood Records will release the “American Dad!: Greatest Hits” soundtrack, featuring songs performed by the cast throughout the show’s run.

    The animated comedy, created by MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, is produced by 20th Television Animation. It is executive produced by co-showrunner Brian Boyle, alongside MacFarlane and Weitzman. Here’s a first look:

    Unscripted trade org NPACT and software company Talent Systems (which is behind industry staffing platforms like Staff Me Up, Cast It Reach, Casting Networks and Spotlight) will hold its first-ever Unscripted Executive Summit on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

    The one-day event will feature unscripted executives and producers as they discuss the future of the industry, including creative trends, emerging business models and investment strategies, IP and rights retention, international partnerships and co-productions, brand-driven content and more.

    Among execs scheduled to speak are Netflix VP of nonfiction series and sports Brandon Riegg, ABC Entertainment/Hulu Originals EVP of unscripted and alternative Rob Mills and The CW head of unscripted programming Heather Olander.

    “In this time of momentous change in the industry, we’re excited to bring top executives together to explore the strategies and innovations that will drive the successful future of unscripted content production,” said NPACT general manager Michelle Van Kempen. “This first-ever, high-level Summit is needed now more than ever, and we look forward to working with our great partners at Talent Systems to make this an annual, must-attend event.”

    Former CNN Worldwide chairman/CEO and “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” exec producer Chris Licht is set to serve as the keynote speaker at the 2024 New York Press Club Conference on Journalism.

    His talk, which will focus on the future of legacy media, will take place during the conference, held Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Fordham University Gabelli School of Business

    DEVELOPMENT/PRODUCTION

    Alice Braga, Scoot McNairy, and Paul Ben-Victor will join the cast of Netflix’s upcoming action series “Man on Fire.”  The series, based on A.J. Quinnell’s book and it follows Creasy, a former Special Forces mercenary battling PTSD, who is drawn back into action to protect a young girl.

    Braga, known for “City of God” and “Suicide Squad,” will play Valeria Melo, a professional driver with ties to a local gang. McNairy, recognized for roles in “Nightbitch” and “A Complete Unknown,” will portray Henry Tappan, a CIA field agent in Brazil. Ben-Victor, from “The Wire” and “Pam & Tommy,” will play CIA Director Moncrief.

    Previously announced cast members include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as John Creasy, Billie Boullet as Poe Rayburn, and Bobby Cannavale as Paul Rayburn.

    The showrunner and executive producer is Kyle Killen (“Halo”, “Awake”). The eight-episode series will be directed by Steven Caple Jr. (“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” “Creed II”) and produced by New Regency Productions and Chernin Entertainment.

    Four-time Grammy winning country star Keith Urban will co-host “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash” on CBS. He will present alongside returning host Rachel Smith from “Entertainment Tonight.”

    As previously announced, the special will feature performances from country music stars including Kane Brown and Jelly Roll. The musical special will air across multiple time zones, with the traditional countdown at midnight ET, and then Nashville music note drop and fireworks at midnight CT.

    The show airs on Tuesday, Dec. 31. It will run for five hours from 8 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. ET/PT with a 30-minute break between 10 and 10:30 p.m. It will also be available to stream on Paramount+ live and on demand. The bash is executive produced by Robert Deaton and Mary Hilliard Harrington in partnership with Music City Inc, and it will be directed by Sandra Restrepo.
