The critically acclaimed West End production of “Macbeth,” starring David Tennant and Cush Jumbo, is getting a cinema release across the U.K., U.S., Australia and other select international territories. The adaptation, directed by Max Webster, is currently playing to sold-out audiences at London’s Harold Pinter Theatre.

Tennant and Jumbo play Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, respectively, in a new take on Shakespeare’s classic tale of love and murder. In an exclusive first clip of the filmed version — which was shot during the play’s run at the Donmar Warehouse last year — Tennant and Jumbo passionately perform Act 1, Scene 7, where they conspire to kill Duncan, the King of Scotland, so Macbeth can take the throne. “Macbeth” will screen in cinemas beginning Feb. 5, 2025 from Trafalgar Releasing in partnership with Donmar Warehouse. Tickets will go on sale starting Oct. 16 at MacbethDonmarCinema.com .

“It’s great to be working with the Donmar Warehouse once again to bring their sold-out production of ‘Macbeth’ to cinema audiences both across the U.K. and globally,” Trafalgar Releasing CEO Marc Allenby said in a statement. “Theater continues to be a significant driver of cinema box office revenue and is a priority genre for Trafalgar Releasing as we grow our wide-ranging portfolio of cultural content captured especially for the big screen.”

Donmar Warehouse’s artistic director Tim Sheader and executive director Henry Finch added, “We are delighted that our innovative production of ‘Macbeth’ will continue to reach new audiences beyond the original run at the Donmar and in the West End. It’s so exciting to think that thousands of global audiences will now get to experience this brilliant cast and the intimacy of the Donmar in their local cinema.”

After a raved-about run at the Donmar Warehouse, Tennant and Jumbo’s “Macbeth” relocated to the Harold Pinter Theatre, where it opened on Oct. 1 for a limited run through Dec. 14. Along with Tennant and Jumbo, the filmed version of “Macbeth” at the Donmar stars Moyo Akandé, Annie Grace, Brian James O’Sullivan, Casper Knopf, Cal MacAninch, Kathleen Macinnes, Alasdair Macrae, Rona Morison, Noof Ousellam, Raffi Phillips, Jatinder Singh Randhawa, Ros Watt and Benny Young.
