Roblox Down? Users Report Outage on Gaming Site

Thousands of users reported issues Monday accessing Roblox, the online game platform and virtual world.

Problem reports for Roblox began to surge at around 9:15 a.m. ET, according to site-monitoring service Downdetector. User reports reached just over 7,000 by 10:27 a.m. ET, per Downdetector. Users reported issues logging in, posting screenshots on social of error messages that said, “Error starting experience. An error occurred trying to launch the experience. Please try again later.”

As of 10:40 a.m. ET, the Roblox status page indicated “All Systems Operational,” without any issues to report. According to the Roblox page, there were known issues last week: On Oct. 8, at 5:19 p.m. PT, it reported that “We are investigating issues around accessing the platform and studio.” In an update timestamped 10:57 p.m. PT, the Roblox page said, “This incident has been resolved and access has been restored.”

On its website, Roblox says its “mission is to build a human co-experience platform that enables billions of users to come together to play, learn, communicate, explore and expand their friendships.” It says Roblox “is ranked as one of the top online entertainment platforms for audiences under the age of 18,” based on average monthly visits and time spent as measured by comScore.

For the second quarter of 2024, Roblox said its average daily active users totaled 79.5 million, up 21% year-over-year. The company reported revenue of $893.5 million, up 31% year-over-year, and a net loss of $205.9 million (compared with a net loss of $282.8 million in the year-earlier period).
