Apple’s App Store was experiencing technical problems Tuesday, as thousands of users reported problems accessing the service.

More than 3,500 error reports were logged by users as of 11:37 a.m. ET, according to site-monitoring service Downdetector. Attempts to download apps were unsuccessful for many users, although app updates were working properly, according to posts on social media.

Apple’s system status page indicated the App Store was functioning normally, although it reported that there was an outage for the “Subscription Purchase” service starting at 11:02 a.m. “Some users are affected,” the Apple site says. “Users may be unable to sign in.”

The problems with the App Store appeared to have been resolved within an hour: User error reports on Downdetector had tapered off to negligible levels by noon ET.

Apple’s App Store represents a major component of the tech giant’s services business segment, which has continued to drive record quarterly revenue numbers . In 2022, the App Store facilitated $1.1 trillion in developer billings and sales, according to the company, citing an independent study by economists from Analysis Group. More than 90% of the billings and sales generated through the App Store accrue “solely to developers and businesses of all sizes — without any commission paid to Apple,” according to the company.
