Santa Paula, Oak Park kick off Ventura County's return to school

School is back in Ventura County.

Families flooded the campus of Glen City Elementary Global STEAM Academy in Santa Paula on Wednesday morning to deliver their students to class for the first day of the school year.

After the first bell, teacher Maria Blackshear introduced herself to her third-grade class via a biographical slideshow. Teresa Torres, a first-grade teacher, walked her students through the rules that govern gatherings on the classroom's central rug.

Santa Paula and Oak Park unified school districts are the first two to bring students back for fall classes. The rest of the county's public K-12 schools will get rolling in the next two weeks.
