1 arrested after attempted kidnapping in Ventura

An Oxnard man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of an attempted kidnapping on Ventura's westside a day earlier.

The Ventura Police Department said a woman had been walking near the intersection of Olive and Ramona streets around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when a man in a car drove past her, made a U-turn and got out of his car.

The man, a stranger to the woman, grabbed her shirt, prompting her to shout for help. He returned to his car and left. The victim called 911.

Police said they used security footage to identify the man and arrested him Thursday.

The 20-year-old man was booked into Ventura County jail on suspicion of felony attempted kidnapping and is being held on $100,000 bail, according to jail records. He is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court Monday afternoon.

The Ventura attempted kidnapping is the second this week. Simi Valley police also arrested another man Thursday evening on the same charge.

Oxnard police arrest 1 in holdup on bus

An 18-year-old Oxnard man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of holding up a passenger on a public bus.

The Oxnard Police Department said that on Aug. 1 around 4 p.m. they received a call reporting a man with a gun who demanded a passenger's belongings and left with them.

Investigators identified the suspect and executed a search warrant Thursday in the 900 block of West Gonzales Boulevard, police said. They found evidence of the crime and arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree robbery.

The man is being held on $60,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court Monday.
