Oxnard police investigated a shooting that ended with a crash and a major-injury collision involving a bicyclist in separate incidents Thursday night, with two victims being transported to hospitals.

With the gunfire incident, the Oxnard Police Department received a series of calls starting at 9:12 p.m. about multiple shots heard in the 500 block of Cuesta Del Mar Drive at the city's south end.

Minutes later, callers reported a single-vehicle traffic collision with injuries at Rose and Emerson avenues, about 3 miles away. Callers told police one of the people inside the vehicle had been shot.

At the crash site, officers found a 17-year-old girl with a single gunshot wound to the neck. She was transported to a nearby hospital and underwent emergency surgery. She was listed in stable condition, the department said in a news release. Two other passengers were uninjured.

Police said witnesses and evidence helped them determine the girl was driving on Cuesta Del Mar with the two passengers when someone fired several shots at their car, hitting her. The victims fled in the car to try to transport the girl to a hospital when they crashed.

No arrests had been reported as of Friday morning.

The departments violent crimes unit is investigating, according to the news release. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Randall Gonzales at 805-288-3289 or via email at randall.gonzales@oxnardpd.org .

    Cyclist critically injured in collision

Earlier Thursday evening, a bicycle rider was seriously injured by a car in the city's northeast.

Shortly after 7 p.m., a 2021 Hyundai Sonata crashed into a man riding a bike near a 7-Eleven at the intersection of Gonzales Road and Outlet Center Drive, Oxnard police officials said.

Officers and paramedics found the 34-year-old Oxnard man lying on Gonzales Road. His bicycle was found on the center median.

Paramedics rendered medical aid and transported the man to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition Thursday night. No update on his condition was available Friday.

The car, driven by a 33-year-old Ventura woman, had been headed westbound on Gonzales approaching the intersection, the police department's preliminary investigation found. The cyclist was riding southbound through the 7-Eleven parking lot at 2201. E Gonzales Road and was hit by the car as he entered Gonzales Road.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police, authorities said. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Raul Camacho at 805-385-7749 or via email at raul.camacho@oxnardpd.org .
