Texas, Florida and California top a list of states projected to have the largest populations by 2100.

Click Storage estimated each state's population in 2100 using current population data and historical growth rates from the past 15 years, according to a press release. Click Storage owns storage facilities across Kansas and Oklahoma.

"The data we have now shapes our infrastructure, healthcare, and housing policies for the future,” said Karl Graham, a demographic expert at Click Storage, in a statement. “By examining population trends, we can anticipate and plan for the changes expected to come.”

How populated will it be in 2100?

    • 1. Texas has a current population of 30,976,754 and is projected to grow to 97,840,519 by 2100
    • 2. Florida has a current population of 22,975,931 and is projected to grow to 63,029,910 by 2100
    • 3. California has a current population of 38,889,770 and is projected to grow to 53,376,507 by 2100

With a strong annual growth rate of 1.3%, Texas benefits from substantial net migration, robust birth rates, and an expanding economy, according to the release.

"Texas' economic attractiveness, combined with its vast expanses of land and relatively lower cost of living, will continue to draw people in," Graham said.

Florida's population is expected to triple with its favorable climate, booming tourism industry and retiree influx, according to the release. It also has an annual growth rate of 1.7% and a significant net migration.

"Florida's population growth is a testament to its enduring allure as a retirement haven and its expanding job market," Graham said.

California's population is projected to grow due to its size and economic power despite a modest decline of -0.2% in 2023, according to the release. The state's high living costs and net out-migration are reduced by the state's diverse economy and birth rates.

“The Golden State remains a global hub for technology and entertainment, which will sustain its growth,” Graham said.
