District 118: Work at Kenneth D. Bailey Academy Continues, Students Temporarily in Carle Building on North Vermilion
Danville District 118 has made some student location adjustments for the start of this new school year. Over the summer, some glass, window, and door repair work at Kenneth D. Bailey Academy was delayed first by a brief strike, and then by a shortage of building materials. As Director of Buildings and Grounds Skip Truex explained prior to Wednesday (Aug 14th) evenings District 118 Board meeting, the Kenneth D Bailey middle and high school age students have indeed been moved to the Carle building at 2300 North Vermilion, which is now leased by the school district.
District 118: North Ridge Hires Assistant Principal, Brings “It Takes a Village” on for New School Year
ABOVE: District 118 Human Resources Director Kimberly Pabst introduces new North Ridge Assistant Principal, DHS graduate Colette Hampton, to the District 118 Board. The Danville District 118 School Board has approved the It Takes a Village Mentorship for North Ridge Middle School this school year, at a cost of $20,000. After the vote at Wednesday (Aug 14th) evening’s meeting, Mosaic City Church Pastor LeStan Hoskins stated that he and his wife Jennifer will be bringing similar programs they brought South View students last year, to a lot of those same students at North Ridge this year.

The Indiana State Board of Education has released a second draft of a new High School Diploma proposal after receiving a lot of criticism questioning if students would be prepared enough for higher education. The new plan has students needing 42 credits to earn a diploma, with the ability to earn around 60 credits. Additionally, there are two readiness seals that Indiana high school students can achieve: an Honors Seal or an Honors Plus seal. For each of the two seals, students can obtain them in the enrollment, employment or the enlistment category.

On August 14, 2024, Robert Musson (DOB: 7/20/1965) was found guilty by a Vermilion County Jury on six counts of class X Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child, following a two-day trial. Musson now faces a sentence of mandatory Natural Life in prison.
