VELVA, N.D.– There was a lot of green and yellow out in Velva on Thursday as the NDSU Alumni Golf and friends tournament kicked off for it’s 15th consecutive year. It’s an event to help raise money for team makers. Team makers is the NDSU Athletic Fund and the money that they receive will go towards tuition, room, board, books, and academic supports cost of NDSU’s 400 Student athletes.

“We’re very fortunate especially this year. We got the Head Football Coach, the defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator, the AD, so we have the sport family from NDSU here in Velva, and the goal is to raise money for team makers. Team makers use this money for scholarships, so that they can fund all these programs at NDSU. We’ve been successful here. We end up with about 27 teams on a nine hole course, and we raise a lot of money in one day for them,” said Randy Hauck.

The Star City Golf Course were full of stars, as the North Dakota State Football staff was in attendance along with NDSU legend Brock Jensen. Jensen is responsible for leading the Bison to the school’s first three FCS National Championships, where they went back to back to back.

“Today you know the sun is shining. It’s an opportunity for comradery with the fans up here in the Minot Velva area. Our team makers administration does a great job of putting 6, 7,8 of these events”, said Head Coach Tim Polasek.

“It’s certainly awesome to be out here in Velva. I’ve never been here or even Minot surprisingly. It was a lot of football in my time with NDSU, so I didn’t get chance to get around the state as much as I would have liked. I look forward to a fun day of golf and it’s just a super special time to be here, reuniting with a lot of great people in the community and part of the Bison family.

On a beautiful day where the weather was perfect and the birds were chirping, it was only right that we talked with Coach Polasek about August 29th. The night where the Bison will take on Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes.

“Colorado had three games last year that were the most televised college football game, so obviously Deion Sanders is doing a good job for bringing attention to thier program and excitement, energy, and enthusiasm. For our kids to have a chance to go out there and measure them selves up against a power four conference type of team is a big deal, and we’ll be ready for the challenge. We’ll go out there and compete and improve and be tough for four quarters”, said Head Coach Tim Polasek.
