2024 College Football Hot Takes: Big 12

Football is so back and weird things happen all the time. We had some success with this last year and will look to put out more bold correct takes this year. The Big 12 is up next after already hitting the ACC . Let’s get to those hot takes for the 2024 College Football season!

Tetairoa McMillan Wins The Fred Biletnikoff Award

6-foot-5 and second-team All-Pac 12 last year. Well, the Pac 12 is dead now and in this pass happy conference, let’s just give McMillan the award right now. Arizona is a sneaky team in this conference and their star wide receiver proves to be very fun to watch.

Colorado Is Not Bad Or Good

I think people are all over the map with Colorado. People are either irrational because they hate them or irrational because they love them. I think they will be a perfectly happy mediocre football team. Which on the surface… I guess that isn’t a hot take at all.

I’m a believer in Shedeur Sanders and have been even before he showed up to Colorado. Some of the Deion stuff is nonsense but be fair to the guy. He’s taking over a program that won one singular game the season before he got there.

I think they win anywhere between 5-8 games. Somehow that will be viewed as ridiculous on multiple sides of the argument.

Avery Johnson Is The Best Quarterback In The Conference

Yes, I said it. By the way, the starting quarterback at Ohio State, K State pushed him out the door. By the way, it was also the right thing to do. This might take some time but Avery Johnson has some serious talent. Still 19 but the things he can do in the run game will be scary. I have K State as a playoff team and Johnson starts to put himself on the NFL radar by the end of the year.

    UCF Wins The Conference

Okay… so I have Utah as my Conference title winner but I think UCF has a real shot at it. To the point where at +900 it’s such an incredible bet I just might be forced to take it. Yes, it’s still smoke and mirrors high school offense Gus Malzahn. Having said that, KJ Jefferson is the closest thing he’s had to Cam Newton since the man himself. It’s 23-year-old grown man Jefferson too. Winning the Big 12 is a totally different animal than winning the SEC, which is what Malzahn used to be tasked with doing.

This is a real football team that’s going to win a lot of games. It’s not a question of whether they make it to a Bowl game. It’s a matter of if they’re a CFB playoff team. I love this roster. They have two NFL defensive tackles and two lower tier NFL running backs. Three of the five starters on the offensive line are transfer seniors. The other is a redshirt senior. They’re going to keep getting portal recruits simply by location. Long term, this is a program you want to buy stock in .

    Utah Actually Wins The Conference

It’s hard to not take Utah to win this thing. Their entire team is 45 years old. Not literally but how the hell is Cam Rising still in school? Ditto for Brant Kuithe. Utah always has toughness and in a conference that doesn’t like to play defense, they feel like the easy picks to win it.
