Jamal Murray, Nuggets agree to four-year max extension

Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray has signed a four-year, $208 million max extension, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report Saturday.

Murray is still on the books for $36 million in 2024-25, thus guaranteeing him $244 million over the next five years through 2028-29, his age-31 season. His new contract will start with a $46.4 million cap hit.

The 27-year-old is the only player on the team’s books through 2028-29, according to Spotrac . Though I don’t know that will last for very long once Nikola Jokic –arguably the best player on the planet–is eligible to be extended again, which will be in the summer of 2026.

Murray, who had a very subpar 2024 Olympics with Team Canada, averaged 21.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists last season, shooting 48.1 percent from the floor and a career-best 42.5 percent from 3-point range. Surprisingly enough, he has still yet to make an All-Star team. But he has posted 20.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.1 steals on 47.0/41.0/85.0 shooting splits over his last three combined seasons (172 games).

Report: Michael Malone, Nuggets front office not seeing ‘eye-to-eye’

Murray was also very integral in the Nuggets’ 2022-23 NBA Title run, averaging 26.1 points on 47.3/39.6/92.6 shooting splits over his 20-game postseason, including 21.4 points and 10.0 assists in five NBA Finals contests against the Miami Heat.

His new contract will make him the sixth-highest-paid point guard in the NBA, trailing only Tyrese Haliburton , Cade Cunningham , Stephen Curry , Trae Young and Luka Doncic (who not everyone classifies as a “point guard”).
