    Favre Diagnosed With Parkinson’s.

Some sad news broke this morning about legendary NFL quarterback Brett Favre . During a congressional hearing this morning, the Hall of Famer revealed his recent diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. According to the National Institute of Aging , Parkinson’s is a brain disorder that causes unintended or uncontrollable movements, such as shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination.

While speaking before the House Ways and Means Committee, Favre talked about Prevacus, a company making a supposedly groundbreaking concussion drug. The government awarded Prevacus $2 million in Temporary Assistance funds for poor families. Favre, a top investor in Prevacus, began asking Mississippi state officials to get funds for the company back in November 2018.

During opening remarks, Favre said, “ Sadly, I also lost an investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others,” Favre said during opening remarks. “And I’m sure you’ll understand why it’s too late for me because I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. This is also a cause dear to my heart.

In July, Jacob VanLandingham, the founder of Prevacus, pleaded guilty to wire fraud. VanLandingham used welfare funds to pay off personal gambling debts. Favre, of course, has his own situation with Mississippi welfare funds.

There is a strong correlation between concussions and Parkinson’s disease. According to the Parkinson’s Foundation , “Having a single concussion increased the risk of developing PD by 57% and dementia by 72%.” Brett Favre had previously mentioned that he believes he has suffered hundreds, potentially thousands of concussions during his 20-year NFL career.

This is terrible news, but on the bright side, Parkinson’s is not fatal. Famous actor Micheal J. Fox was diagnosed with the disease way back in 1991 and is still alive today. Regardless, it is a sad situation that Favre was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. My thoughts are with Favre. He put his body on the line for 20 years for our entertainment. Unfortunately, he is now paying the price.
