Kristaps Porzingis Potentially Coming Back Sooner Than Expected

During Tuesday’s Celtics media day, Kristaps Porzingis had some reassuring words for the Boston faithful about his tendon injury. He said how happy he has been with the recovery process from his off-season surgery. This surgery occurred in June on a tendon in his left ankle. Specifically, it repaired his torn retinaculum and dislocated posterior tibialis tendon.

“I’ve been doing a good amount of stuff, doing pretty good,” Porzingis said during media day at the team’s practice facility Tuesday. “Looking forward to keep making the progress at this rate, and hopefully be back out there with the guys as soon as possible.”

According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN , Porzingis said that he could return by December, which is earlier than the originally projected 5-6 month recovery process. He had the surgery shortly after the Celtics championship parade in June. This indicates that Porzingis could potentially be back sooner than expected.

When asked what activities he can currently do, Kristaps responded :

Walking obviously with [no limp]…I’m running, I’m on the court, shooting normal. … I’m doing a lot of stuff honestly. I was already kind of with some live contact, doing some stuff and, yeah, it felt really good afterwards…I think it’s a really good sign that we had from the other day. … I’m optimistic as always .”

Last offseason, Porzingis was traded to the Celtics and won the NBA Finals in his first season there. Game two of the Finals was where he suffered the tendon injury that eventually led to the surgery.

Winning it all didn’t satisfy his hunger, though, as he stated:

I still feel like I have a chip on my shoulder. I want to stay healthy throughout this next playoff run we’re going to have, so I still have many things to prove in my own eyes .”

The Celtics shouldn’t rush Kristaps back, as he is seen as an injury-prone player. They have Al Horford , Luke Kornet , Xavier Tillman , and Neemias Queta to fill in for him at the Center position.
