Craig Counsell Cries About How Much Better The Brewers Are Than The Cubs

I know what you’re thinking. Yes, I’m going to point out the obvious elephant in the room with the headline. Yes, Craig Counsell was really that guy.

If you recall, this past offseason, Cousell bolted Milwaukee for the job in Chicago. A move he vehemently defended.

The 2023 MLB Season is essentially over. Milwaukee won the division . The Cubs will likely finish second or third with a few games remaining as I’m currently typing this. Counsell is now complaining that the Brewers just have better players and there’s nothing he can do about it.

“I think the message sent really is that there’s a big gap,” Counsell said Thursday, per Marquee Sports . “They’re ahead of us by a lot. It’s a talented team, on and off the field. But there’s a big gap and we’ve got room to make up, there’s no question about it.”

“We’ve got to get better,” Counsell said . “The team we’re chasing is 10 games ahead of us. You’ve got to get better. We should be trying to build 90-win teams here. That’s the playoff standard.”

This is bad. If I were the Cubs general manager, I would be pissed. This guy got handed a $40 million contract to manage the Cubs. Isn’t it his job to make the team better? They had 83 wins last year and will finish with roughly that same number this year. At some point, maybe look yourself in the mirror for bailing on a team that won the division without you. If you’re going to get handed the bag so that you can stab your team in the back, at least keep your mouth shut and don’t cry about it.
