2024 College Football Best Games of the Week: Week 8

It is time for another week of the 2024 College Football best games of the week. Last week, the Ohio State vs Oregon game delivered in every way maybe more than the Alabama vs Georgia game. The top five ranked matchups this year have been amazing, which is great because there is a No. 1 vs No. 5 matchup in week 8. Also, there is a No. 7 vs No. 11 matchup as well as what should be some fun offensive battles. Overall, I believe CFB fans have another fun Saturday ahead of them. Here, are the 2024 College Football best games of the week for week eight.

Honorable Mentions : Nebraska @ No. 16 Indiana, No. 24 Michigan @ No. 22 Illinois, North Texas @ Memphis, No. 17 Kansas State @ West Virginia

    5) JMU @ GA Southern (4 p.m. ET, ESPN+)

I decided to take the Nebraska @ Indiana game and Michigan @ Illinois game out of the top five because each team has been in two previous best games. Now, we have a fun game between two higher-scoring offenses. GA Southern has had a good season as they sit at 4-2 with their losses being a shootout with Boise State and a big loss to Ole Miss. Hopefully, QB JC French and RB Jalen White can get this offense going early because they will need a lot of points to keep up with JMU.

James Madison has an impressive 5-1 record and they are averaging 39 points per game. QB Alonzo Barnett lll has thrown for over 1,400 yards with a fantastic 15 to 1 TD/INT ratio. Also, he has a dangerous dual-threat ability as he has five touchdowns in his last four games. I think this game has the opportunity to be a fun high-scoring affair between two good non-group of four teams.

    4) Colorado @ Arizona (4 p.m. ET, Fox)

I’m starting to feel bad that Colorado is making this list every week, but their games continue to deliver. The Buffalos lost a nail-biter last week to Kansas State that delivered an exciting late-window matchup. Once again, QB Shadeur Sanders and WR/CB Travis Hunter are phenomenal and they have a good chance of both being top ten picks in the 2025 NFL draft. Also, I think the pair, as well as the other skilled Colorado wide receivers, will have a great chance to score on this average Arizona defense.

However, the Wildcats have a solid offense of their own. Admittedly, this Arizona team has disappointed this season but they have a great opportunity for another big win on Saturday. Redshirt sophomore QB Noah Fifita has not played as well as he did last year but he is still a QB capable of flashy plays. Also, he is throwing to WR Tetairoa McMillan, who is one of the best pass-catchers in the country. I think this game can be a higher-scoring game that can come down to the last possession.

    3) No. 6 Miami @ Louisville (12 noon, ET, ABC/ESPN+)

I do not know if there is another team that has had a more entertaining two last games than No. 6 Miami. Their game against Virginia Tech came down to a last-play Hail Mary and their game against Cal was a classic. QB Cam Ward might be the most entertaining quarterback in college football. The possible Heisman winner has 2,219 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. The 6-0 Hurricanes will have another tough test in week 8 against a 4-2 Louisville team.

The Cardinals were ranked a couple of weeks ago before they lost two close games to Notre Dame and SMU. QB Tyler Shough has had a nice season passing the rock, especially to skilled former Alabama wide receiver Ja’corey Brooks. Also, RB Isaac Brown is coming off of back-to-back 100+ yard rushing performances. The Cardinals have a chance to get their biggest win of the season and knock off the sixth-ranked team. This should be a fun early window game to start Saturday the right way.

    2) No. 7 Alabama @ No. 11 Tennessee (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN+)

This game did look more exciting a couple of weeks ago but both of these teams have stumbled recently. However, both teams are still 5-1 in need of a huge win. This game has heavy SEC implications as well as College Football Playoff implications. It will be interesting to see what team can get back on track in week 8. The Tennessee defense has been phenomenal and the Alabama offense is still one of the best groups in the country.

However, the Alabama defense has been suspect and the Volunteers offense has struggled recently with young QB Nico Iamaleava at the helm. This rivalry game has been fun these past years with the 2022 game being in the conversation for game of the year. I think this SEC matchup will be another exciting entry into the series and it will be a huge statement win for whatever team comes out on top. Neyland Stadium will be electric on Saturday in this important 2024 week eight matchup.

2025 NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 7

Game of the week: No. 5 Georgia @ No. 1 Texas (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN+)

This game had to be game of the week as this is No.1 Texas’ first real test. Also, we have seen one and two seeds lose multiple times this year so it will be the opportunity for Texas to prove they are the monster of CFB this year. The Longhorns’ defense has been dominant this year and shutting down the Bulldogs would only further their case for best team in the country. Also, the Texas offense has sleepwalked to 30 points every game this year so this will be a prove-it spot for QB Quinn Ewers.

However, this is the perfect game for Georgia to write their wrongs over the past two weeks with a win in week 8. QB Carson Beck has looked good this year but the Bulldogs run game has not been as effective as past Georgia teams. Georgia is in a tough spot here on the road but they can flip the 2024 college football season on its head again with a win against No. 1 Texas. It seems like every week we are getting a possible game-of-the-year contender and that opportunity falls to Texas and Georgia here in week eight.
