Venice Theatre’s Education and Community Engagement Department is offering a new round of classes and camps for children, teens and adults. A variety of learning opportunities continue through August — including offerings in improv, acting and musical theater.

Sandy Davisson, director of Education and Community Engagement, says the theater is proud of its ability to keep programs running while recovering from Hurricane Ian.

“We don’t have as much space available to us right now,” she said, “but with lots of flexibility and help from our partners in the community, we’ve hardly missed a beat.”

All of the following upcoming classes and camps still have space available at the time of this writing:

    • Act! Sing! Dance! Camp for grades 3-8 with Kelly Duyn

Starts 8:30 a.m. June 24 and runs for three weeks. Tuition: $335.

Students will experience the joy of musical theater, build acting skills and, most importantly, have fun! There will be a demonstration of the students’ work at 7:30 p.m. July 12 on VT’s Raymond Center stage. (No camp on July 4.)

    • Drop-In Improv with Spencer Cross

    1-3 p.m. June 29. Tuition: $35.

This adult “drop-in” improv class caters to any level, with specially crafted games, warm-ups and exercises. Also offered July 20. Material will be new and fresh every time. Increase confidence, decrease anxiety and find community. Must be registered by noon two days prior to class.

    • “Teen Cabaret Performs!” or “Come to the Cabaret” for grades 9-12

Begins 1 p.m. July 1 and runs for four weeks. Tuition: $335. Instructor: Brad

    Wages.

A unique performance opportunity for teens in grades 9-12 who are interested in musical theater. They will have the opportunity to build and perform a cabaret. Note: The first two weeks (beginning July 1 and 8) will be 1-4:30 p.m. The second two weeks (beginning July 15 and 22), class will shift to evenings from 5-8 p.m. There will be three ticketed performances July 24-26 on VT’s Raymond Center stage, along with VT’s Teen Improv Troupe. (No class on July 4.)
