Court rules that president is now a king

    Editor:

This year as a Literacy Volunteer, I had a young Polish woman as a student. She wanted to study English and civics to pass our citizenship test.

We studied the Constitution and the Bill of Rights; those things that make us unique as a country ... freedom of speech, religion, the press. But above all,”the Rule of Law”. I explained that in America, everyone must follow the law; leaders must obey the law, the government must obey the law and no one is above the law.

Now the Supreme Court has made a mockery of our Constitution and a liar out of me. Senators and representatives, mostly lawyers, have skirted the law since the beginning.

But now, the highest court in the land (and the only one without a written code of conduct or ethics), has cheapened the Rule of Law. As Justice Sotomayor writes, “The President is now a king above the law.”

And that man who would seek retribution, has been given immunity.

I would like your vote as Republican Committeewoman

    Editor:

I love serving my hometown of Venice on the city council, and will continue to serve in this capacity to protect taxpayers and our small-town charm.

It is a privilege to serve Venice and its residents, and I will continue to do so.

I also am passionate about the direction of our country. The Republican Party of Florida needs common sense and reasonable conservatives in leadership at the state level. That’s why I am running for Republican State Committeewoman on Aug. 20.

I believe my background puts me in a unique position to seek this office and provide a fresh voice to the Republican Party. I am a wife, mom and small business owner.

I believe the Republican Party can continue its strong leadership in the state with good leadership and common sense conservative values.

I am proud to have the endorsement of Senator Joe Gruters, Representative James Buchanan and Sheriff Kurt Hoffman for this role, and I look forward to continuing to drive success for our party, Sarasota County and the great state of Florida.

I hope to earn the trust of Venice and all Sarasota County Republican voters for Republican State Committeewoman on Aug. 20.

    Where was Donald Trump?

    Editor:

As we are ready to celebrate 248 years of this Grand Experiment of our Republic, I’ve been pondering several issues since Memorial Day, including the recognition of what was sacrificed on D-Day.

A previous, and possibly future, military Commander-in-Chief was noticeably absent from any of those celebrations. I remembered him standing once in a military cemetery referring to those buried there as “losers and suckers”; and referring to John McCain as a loser because he was captured and imprisoned (McCain who had more integrity, character and courage in his little finger than this previous CiC).

I’m a veteran who served, as did my Father, his brother and several cousins. This CiC also disrespects and treats women as toys and views minority populations as unworthy.

Given my patriotism and wokeness, I don’t understand how any veteran, woman or person of color could consciously support and vote for him! Not to mention the obvious 3 of the 10 Commandments he has clearly broken questions the support by those calling themselves Christians!

So where was he on Memorial Day? Perhaps he was at the tomb of the Unknown Podiatrist who served so he didn’t have to!
