VENICE — The Venice Art Center’s annual free Family Fun Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27.

There will be free food and drink, free arts and crafts and a family photo booth.

This year’s event is all about super heroes. Dress as your favorite character: Bat Man, Robin, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Flash, Cyborg, Captain America, the Green Hornet or, perhaps, Pluto or Mickey.

Everyone is encouraged to wear costumes and, judging by past Family Fun Days, many enjoy dressing up as much as they enjoy the free food and crafting opportunities.

Try your hand at all sorts of crafts from painting to pottery. Take home what you make. Perhaps you will be inspired to learn more at the center, which offers classes for all ages throughout the year. Meet some of the teachers at this event.

Pose for family photos in the family photo booth and take home yet another remembrance of this annual event, which is the VAC’s summertime gift to this community.

Enjoy hot dogs and soft drinks courtesy of Brewburgers and Patrick Air.

Last year, some 2,000 people were served. There was even an emergency run to Publix for more hot dogs and buns — a sign of this event’s popularity

While visiting for Family Fun Day, see the current show of work by local artists and, in the center’s gift shop, such things as art glass jewelry, gold and silver jewelry, hand-thrown mugs and bowls and paintings.

Be sure to pick up a course catalog, as you might want to pursue one of the crafts you try at the festival.

Venice Art Center is at 390 S. Nokomis Ave., on the southeast corner of the city’s Cultural Campus, which includes the William H. Jervey Jr. Venice Public Library, the Venice Community Center and, at 351 Nassau Street, facing Blalolck Park, the Venice Museum in the former Triangle Inn.
