    Applications online for Fall Gulf Coast Board Institute

    The Gulf Coast Community Foundation is now accepting applications for its October 2024 Fall Gulf Coast Board Institute.

    Gulf Coast’s Invest In Incredible initiative is for active and prospective nonprofit board members in the region. The deadline to apply for the governance training series is Aug. 18. The selected group will participate in training through four consecutive Fridays from Oct. 4-25 at Gulf Coast’s Venice headquarters, 601 Tamiami Trail S.     “The Gulf Coast Board Institute delivers an exceptional opportunity for regional nonprofit board members to build, further develop, and refine their skills,” Gulf Coast’s Invest In Incredible director Betsy Steiner said. “Individuals will be selected to participate in four interactive training sessions over a four-week period."

    Participants will be selected through a competitive process with the intent of creating a group representing nonprofits from all sectors with a variety of experience. All training and resources are at no cost to participants. To learn more, visit gulfcoastcf.org/GCBI .

    Boys & Girls Clubs accepting Great Futures applications

    The Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties are accepting applications for the 2024-25 Great Futures Academy School-Year Program, which will launch on Aug. 12 at Club locations, school sites, and designated 21 st Century Community Learning Centers in Sarasota and DeSoto counties.

    The program provides members, ages 6 to 12, with access to youth development activities after the school day and features educational, recreational, and developmental activities. Daily snacks are served at no additional cost. BGCSDC also offers Teen Programs (ages 13-18), including entrepreneurial training, leadership development, planning for college, and workforce development.

    Done in a Day grants open at Sarasota Junior League

    The Junior League of Sarasota is accepting applications for its 2024 grants and Done in a Day initiatives designed to support the community through direct funding and volunteer efforts.

    Eligible nonprofits can apply for grants to support initiatives in the areas of education, health, and family stability. The Done in a Day initiative mobilizes Junior League volunteers to support short-term projects that can be completed in a single day that create a lasting impact.

    “Done in a Day projects allow us to make a swift and significant impact in the community,” said Nicole Zimmerman, executive vice president of the Junior League. “Our members are eager to roll up their sleeves and work alongside local organizations to bring about positive change.”

    JFCS is expanding support for families of at-risk youth

    Jewish Family and Children’s Service of the Suncoast recently received a $563,744 grant over two years from the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation to assist families with youth who are at risk or already involved with the juvenile justice system.

    JFCS’s Adolescent Diversion & Assistance Program provides prevention and intervention services for youth ages 11-17 in Sarasota-Manatee who have been charged with a crime or are at risk of committing crimes. The youth participate in a curriculum involving groups and individual counseling. In addition to direct services with youth, ADAP staff provides case management services for parents and caregivers.

    JFCS has had a 95% success rate in diverting at-risk youth from future or further involvement in the juvenile justice system, and 100% of the program’s participants have had no further criminal behavior for at least six months after completing the program.
