    Gondolier is failing its readers

    Editor:

Mr. Editor, your oats are soggy from sitting too long.

I refer to your front-page story declaring that the Gondolier is once again heralded as the “state’s best community newspaper.”

I don’t read the other local newspapers in Florida, but I do subscribe to this local one, and only because it is the only one in town.

Your self-congratulating front page stands in contrast to today’s page A6 story by your Chloe Nelson’s “news” coverage of last Friday’s Tiger Bay Club, in which her unbalanced coverage reported on school board candidates.

There are three candidates for District 3, which represents Venice and south county. Chloe’s story basically covered two of those candidates — Edwards and Wood.

By word count, Chloe’s story devoted 394 words to democrat incumbent Edwards, 364 to establishment Republican Greg Wood, and just 92 to conservative Republican Thomas Babicz.

I was at that meeting, too, and I know that Chloe failed your readers.

    Your oats are getting soggy.

    SMH is a wonderful hospital

    Editor:

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Some people thrive on chaos and destroying people’s livelihoods. Our hospital is beyond being A-One. Anyone who has been to Sarasota Memorial Hospital knows the excellent care they received.

Please vote and let these troublemakers know they are not wanted here.

Angry letters serve no real purpose

    Editor:

People, must you use Letters to the Editor as a venue to vent your political diatribes? These rants and ravings will, in no way, change the political leanings of myself or others but only serve to cause rage and spite.

What good does this do in our present world, already filled with hate? This is a free country, and we are each entitled to our own political viewpoints, which we may express in the privacy of the voting booth.

In these weeks leading up to the election, do we not get sufficient rhetoric on TV without these bitter opinions in letters to the editor? Would it not better serve readers to be offered less controversial subjects?

    Congrats to Mudge, Gondolier

    Editor:

Congratulations to Senior Writer Bob Mudge and the Venice Gondolier!

It was exciting news to hear the Gondolier was named the state’s best community newspaper. And it is!

I have witnessed Bob Mudge attend so many events. I find he is always striving to be fair and accurate in his writing. Because of Bob, the residents of Venice are given a “voice.”

Bob, your journalism is beyond reproach. Thank you, Bob, and thank you to the Gondolier for supporting your writers. Bob, you are a credit to yourself, the residents, the city and the Gondolier.

Common sense says to vote for Knight

    Editor:

I’m just an Ohio guy who moved to Venice 20 years ago. I am wondering if “common sense” will ever return to politics.

We have two Republicans running in an Aug. 10 Republican primary for the Sarasota County Commission, District 3 seat.

I admit, I don’t know either candidate, but Tom Knight went to Venice High School and served as Sarasota County Sheriff for 12 years, and throughout his career has been an ambassador for proper care and treatments available for society’s mental health problems that exist at all ages.

The other candidate, Neil Rainford, was a successful businessman, the secretary of the Sarasota County Republican Party, and although he did not even live in District 3, was appointed to this vacant seat by Gov. DeSantis. This was clearly a political appointment.

These two candidates have spent over $425,000 on this primary election for one “little seat” of the five seats in just one county in Florida.

Even Governor DeSantis has gotten involved, endorsing Rainford. Phew! Obviously, way too much “power” in government for so much money to be spent just to run in a primary election for one of five County Commission seats.

I’m thinking “common sense” leans towards Tom Knight, the local guy, who went to Venice High School.

Will Americans succumb to progressive power?

    Editor:

“The sky is falling; the sky is falling” screeched Chicken Little. The idiom represents a belief that disaster is imminent.

Today’s frenzy, “Donald Trump is an existential threat to democracy; he’ll be a dictator from day one,” is being squawked by progressive leaders and echoed in the media chamber.

This hysteria was fomented by the same progressive leaders who repeatedly reassured the American people that Joe Biden was as sharp as a tack. A hoax perpetrated on the American people by progressive leadership with the complete cooperation of corporate and social media.

Progressive leaders prevented RFK Jr. from challenging Joe Biden in a primary race. Thus, he became an Independent.

Progressive leaders denied Floridians their constitutional right to vote in a Democrat presidential primary.

Progressive leaders installed Kamala Harris as the Democrat presidential nominee even though she did not receive a single primary vote.

A free press would question why the American people were denied their constitutional rights. A free press would question candidates’ policies.

A free press would diligently investigate and report the negative economic impact of open borders, government expansion, and energy dependency.

Trump stated he would be a dictator for one day to revoke the devastating policies afflicted on the American people by the current administration.

No different then when Joe Biden used executive orders to end the Keystone pipeline, border wall construction and other policies that generated prosperity and protected U.S. sovereignty.

The imminent threat to this constitutional republic is not Donald Trump, but a press that is not free.

“Truth will ultimately prevail where pains is taken to bring it to light.” — George Washington
