SARASOTA — In order to build sensory gardens that are available to all, even those with accessibility issues, the Friends of Sarasota County Parks Master Gardener Chapter decided they needed a new way to raise money.

So they are turning to flower power.

The chapter will host a “Flower Power for the Future” garden party. The event, set for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 2, will feature food and Prosecco, “hip” ‘60s tunes provided by a DJ, groovy cars, garden tours, a short presentation by the Bradenton-Sarasota Rose Society, a silent auction and more.

Rain or shine, festivities will take place on the UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County grounds in Twin Lakes Park, 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota.

Tickets are $30 per person and $25 for active Master Gardener Volunteer members. Tickets can be purchased at: tinyurl.com/mrxxnb2t

The sensory garden project is part of a multi-phase effort to improve and expand the demonstration gardens at the Sarasota County Extension campus. The gardens provide residents with examples of Florida-Friendly Landscaping principles to use in their own gardens.

A learning circle at the center of the sensory garden also will provide extra classroom space for “hands-on” learning.
