    Man killed, woman wounded in metro-east shooting. Police ask for public’s help

    A 20-year-old man was killed and a 24-year-old woman wounded early Saturday in a shooting in Venice.

    Police have not released the names of the victims.

    The man, who is from Madison, was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene at 1:40 a.m., according to a press release from the Illinois State Police.

    The woman, who is from East St. Louis, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the press release states.

    State police agents are handling the investigation.

    Interim Venice Police Chief Henry Dowell told a BND reporter that a call came in to the department around 1:25 a.m. reporting a ``man down” in the 1300 block of Oriole Street.

    No further information was released by police.
