Arrest in Fatal Pre-dawn Shooting
On June 30, 2024, detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau arrested 34-year-old Oxnard resident Alexis Bustillos for assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, and unlawful transfer of a firearm. Fillmore Resident Pleads Guilty to Auto Insurance Fraud in Ventura County
A Fillmore resident has entered a plea of guilty to a charge of felony automobile insurance fraud, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office reported on Tuesday. Emerson Mercado, born March 16, 1991, was involved in a vehicle collision in November 2022, which became the anchor point for his fraudulent insurance claim. According to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office release, Mercado adjusted the deductible on his auto insurance only days after the incident, and then proceeded to file a deceiving claim.
Camarillo Woman Sentenced for Embezzling More Than $750,000
Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced that Neydi Garcia a 41-year-old of Camarillo, was sentenced to 4 years 4 months state prison. Garcia, also known as Neydi Villegas and Neydi Alargunsoro, previously pled guilty on May 26, 2023, to seven felony counts of grand theft from her employer, one felony count of identity theft, and one felony count of filing a false or fraudulent tax return. She admitted she stole more than $500,000. She also admitted several special allegations and aggravating factors, including that she took advantage of a position of trust, and carried out the crime with planning, sophistication, and professionalism.
