Camp Ta-Kum-Ta celebrates 40 years of providing care and connection for children with cancer
Camp Ta-Kum-Ta first opened its cabin doors in the summer of 1984, welcoming children who were fighting cancer and their families — at no cost. Forty years later, the camp now offers free year-round programming exclusively for kids who have or have had cancer, while continuing to bring 100 campers from Vermont and northern New York to their property in South Hero every August.

Gillian Welch, David Rawlings Announce Album And U.S. Tour, Share New Song
Folk country duo Gillian Welch and David Rawlings have announced a new album, Woodland, due out on August 23 on the pair’s Acony Records. This is a follow-up to their Grammy-winning 2020 covers album, All The Good Times (Are Past & Gone). Woodland is Welch’s first album of original material since 2011’s The Harrow & the Harvest, and Rawlings’ first since 2017’s Poor David’s Almanack. Welch and Rawlings shared the first single lifted from their new album, “Empty Trainload of Sky,” while also announcing an extensive U.S. tour that kicks off on July 23 in South Burlington, Vermont, and finishes up on December 5 in Port Chester, New York.

Local crowd energy key to success for IronMAN Lake Placid winners Trevor Foley and Danielle Lewis
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — The 25th edition of a summer tradition in Lake Placid brought several people to cheer on some of the best athletes in the world. The Lake Placid IronMAN featured fans flooded across Main Street cheering on triathletes as they traversed through the 140.6 course of swimming, biking and running. They motivated 2024 IronMAN Lake Placid champion Trevor Foley to pass the original course record set in the Olympic Village last year by Joe Skipper. The new course record that Foley set is a time of 7 hours, 55 minutes.
