Bailey Ober allows 1 hit in 8 innings to lead the Tigers past the Twins 5-0
Bailey Ober allowed one hit in eight scoreless innings, and the Minnesota Twins beat Detroit 5-0 on Sunday to win the weekend and season series against the Tigers.Ober (10-5) finished with a career-best 11 strikeouts, his third time this season reaching double digits. Not bad for a pitcher who wasn't feeling well Sunday morning and wasn't certain he could pitch."I didn't feel great physically, but I kept getting good results, so we kept doing what we were doing," Ober said.Willi Castro and Manuel Margot each had three hits for the Twins, who went 2 for 15 with runners in scoring...
Former Viking Signs with Saints
The New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings are in the same boat in 2024 — both franchises have around +8000 odds to win the Super Bowl in February. And with the regular season less than six weeks away, New Orleans signed Jesse Davis, a former Vikings lineman, on Sunday.
Twins catcher Christian Vazquez showed a ridiculously outside target against Javy Báez and of course it worked
For the money, there isn’t really a worse hitter than Tigers shortstop Javy Báez. He ranks near (or at) the bottom in virtually every hitting metric this season, and his abysmal plate discipline makes for an easy matchup whenever a pitcher gets Báez in a two-strike count.
Twins provide an update on Jose Miranda after he was hit in the head by a pitch
Jose Miranda needed to exist Sunday's game in Detroit after the Minnesota Twins third baseman was struck in the side of the head by a pitch. It happened in the top of the first inning, when an Alex Faedo fastball came high and inside, hitting Miranda in the side of his helmet and sending him to the dirt. Miranda stayed down for a considerable amount of time, with the Twins training staff attending to him, but he was eventually able to get up and walk back to the clubhouse under his own power.

Midwest sees surge in calls to poison control centers amid bumper crop of wild mushrooms
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The warm, soggy summer across much of the Midwest has produced a bumper crop of wild mushrooms — and a surge in calls to poison control centers. At the Minnesota Regional Poison Center, calls from April through July more than tripled over the same period last year, said Samantha Lee, the center’s director. The center took 90 calls for potential exposures over that period, compared to 26 calls for the same months in 2023. Exposures include people who have had actual or suspected contact with potentially poisonous mushrooms and who may or may not develop symptoms, she said.
Minnesota sees rise in reports of kids left alone at day care
Stories of kids left unsupervised by Minnesota child-care providers appear nearly every week in state investigative reports. Child-care workers in Rochester and Montrose left 2-year-olds unsupervised on playgrounds, according to documents posted in mid-July. The week before, a memo described a 3-year-old slipping through a St. Paul center's unlocked gate and walking onto University Avenue. Reports published earlier this month chronicled how a toddler and preschooler were briefly left alone in Brooklyn Park and Chaska classrooms.
