Lakefield pool honoring Windom season passes
Due to the flooding at Island Park, the rest of the season at the Windom Pool is in doubt. The floodwaters got into the pool, meaning the pool will need to be emptied and deep cleaned before it can potentially be refilled. However, that cannot happen until floodwater completely recedes from the area.
27-year-old man dies after falling from a tree on the Fourth of July
AITKIN, Minn. — A 27-year-old man died after falling from a tree near the shores of Gun Lake in Aitkin on the Fourth of July. According to police Henry M. Cannon was climbing a large white pine tree while celebrating the holiday with friends when a branch broke and he fell approximately 25 feet to the ground. The fall knocked Cannon unconscious and resulted in multiple internal injuries, said authorities. Cannon was transported to Riverwood Hospital and administered lifesaving care. Cannon succumbed to his injuries. Police are still investigating the incident.
Coon Rapids Planning Commission to Consider Wedgewood Apartments' Addition of a New Unit in Upcoming Public Hearing
In Coon Rapids, an upcoming hearing by the Planning Commission is set to address a petition related to a local housing development. The petitioner is seeking approval to amend an existing Planned Unit Development (PUD), enabling the addition of a single apartment unit to the Wedgewood Apartments complex, which currently houses 58 units. The modification to the PUD is required due to restrictions on the number of units allowed at the site.

Blooming Prairie's Old Fashioned Fourth of July festivities hit a major milestone this year. This week's celebrations marked the event's 50th anniversary. Overseen by the Blooming Prairie Area Chamber of Commerce, the festivities were projected to bring in approximately 20,000 visitors, expanding the town's occupancy tenfold. Despite a sprinkling of rain, the Old Fashioned Fourth of July parade drew a big crowd Thursday. The multi-day festival also featured a slate of food, games and live entertainment. The festivities culminate with the annual tractor pull on Saturday.

City of Willmar, officer sued by man claiming wrongful arrest
WILLMAR, Minn. – The city of Willmar and a police officer are being sued by a man who claims he was wrongly arrested and harassed two years ago. Derrick Gilbert of Willmar is seeking $50,000 in damages, claiming he was arrested for “walking while black” in June 2022.
