State Flood Recovery Centers to open
Vermont Business Magazine The state of Vermont will be opening State Flood Recovery Centers in Barre, Hinesburg, Lyndonville, and Plainfield. While the state is still awaiting a determination on whether any counties are eligible for FEMA public assistance or individual assistance, these centers will help those impacted by this month’s floods navigate the recovery process. These centers are open to all residents from throughout the state. The first center will open in Plainfield on Wednesday, July 24.

WATERBURY, VT — Mosquitoes collected in Alburgh as part of the state’s disease surveillance efforts have tested positive for West Nile virus. This is the first detection of the virus in Vermont this year. There have been no human or animal cases this season, but Health officials are encouraging people in Vermont to protect themselves from mosquito bites and the potentially dangerous diseases they can spread.

BARNET, Vt. (AP) — Exactly one year to the date of last year’s severe flooding in Vermont, Joe’s Brook Farm was flooded again by the remnants of Hurricane Beryl. This time it was worse. Workers were able to harvest some of the produce before last week’s flooding, but the family-owned vegetable farm still lost 90% of its crop in fields and greenhouses.
Vermont institutions affected by global IT outage
Vermont was among the states affected by a faulty update to Windows servers that wreaked havoc around the world Friday morning, disrupting hospitals, airlines and governments. At Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport, early-morning flights were delayed for hours as United, American Airlines, and Delta repaired their systems. The airport’s own services, which run separately from airlines, were unaffected.
Pennsylvania Man Sentenced To Over 8 Years For Drug Trafficking In Vermont
The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont announced that Ronald Harris, 32, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was sentenced on Wednesday by Chief United States District Judge Geoffrey Crawford to 100 months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release. Harris had previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine base, fentanyl, and heroin.
