Meet NorthJersey.com's adoptable pets of the week for July 6!

Each week, NorthJersey.com would like to highlight adoptable animals from local shelters and rescues.

If you foster, work at, or volunteer with a North Jersey animal shelter or rescue and know of some animals who are in need of a loving fur-ever home, please send a photo, description, and adoption information to amwallace@gannett.com to have your adoptable pets featured in the next edition.

This week, we are featuring Chester and Ruby from Rosemarie's Rescue Ranch in Verona.

    Chester

Chester , 6, is a terrier who was pulled four years ago from AHS Newark in need of a new Foster2Adopt or forever family.

He has a silly underbite and is a comedy show that loves long walks and the outdoors. He has a love/hate relationship with some dogs yet loves other dogs deeply.

He's volatile and has some PTSD. If you startle him while he is asleep it will terrify him, but he will calm back down once he is alert. According to his profile on the Rosemarie's Rescue Ranch website, something must have happened to him before landing at a high-kill shelter here in New Jersey. Despite whatever he has been through, Chester loves to be near you and snuggle up to you.

If you are interested in Chester, you can apply to adopt him at https://rosemariesrescueranch.com/dog-adoption/ .

In the consideration section, under "Application Notes," please tell the ranch about yourself to help them get a feel for you and your family, and as a fit for the pet you are interested in.

    Ruby Big Ears

Ruby, also known as Ruby Big Ears , is an American blue heeler and shepherd mix who has not gotten any applications since being with Rosemarie's Rescue Ranch.

She is a cuddly lap dog in a heeler's body who will crawl onto your lap on the couch and go to sleep. However, she is also an energetic dog who will easily swim 25 laps around the pool and jump up and down as if on a trampoline just to see what the neighborhood kids are laughing about. She would need a fence at least 6 or 7 feet tall.

"If I didn't have a houseful already, she would never leave me. Ever!" says Susan Janett, president and co-founder of Rosemarie's Rescue Ranch.

This loveable pup deserves a chance at a family of her own.

She is an active girl who is friendly, lively, and loves to greet you with kisses. She has a silly personality that often brings on zoomies. She loves to run and chase balls so an active family would be great. She is dog friendly and would make a perfect hiking companion.

If you are interested in Ruby, you can apply to adopt her at https://rosemariesrescueranch.com/dog-adoption/ .

In the consideration section, under "Application Notes," please tell the ranch about yourself to help them get a feel for you and your family, and as a fit for the pet you are interested in.
