Methodology for the 2023 Online Therapy + Wellness Awards
36 mental health and wellness apps focusing on mindfulness and meditation, therapy tools like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and sleep. After doing some market research on the teletherapy landscape and consulting with three licensed therapists, Dr. Amy Marschall, PsyD, Dr. Nic Hardy, LCSW and PhD, and Hannah Owens, LMSW, we compiled a list of 55 online therapy and psychiatry companies based on their popularity, scale, and online reviews. We included companies that either served more than 3 states or that provided a niche specialization that was hard to find elsewhere, provided care with licensed therapists or board-certified doctors, and offered at least one of the following services:
After My Relationship With My Therapist Stagnated, I Tried Wellnite Online Therapy
Deciding whether to end treatment with your therapist is a lot like trying to decide whether to break up with a partner. You ask yourself, Are things really that bad? Can we talk it out? Have I expressed my concerns? How will they take it? And, most importantly, Will I ever find a new one?
I’ve Been Burned by Online Therapy Before, But MDLIVE Changed My Mind
Lately, I’ve been in a bit of a disappointed funk after some very underwhelming and (what I thought to be) overpriced online therapy I had recently tried for low-level anxiety and depression around my dad’s failing health. The last thing I needed in my life was to stress about unclear billing processes and costs that doubled unexpectedly. That’s why I turned to MDLIVE—it communicated clearly on its website that its talk therapy sessions cost $108 a session, which for me was a very reasonable price.
During House Hunting Stress, My Partner and I Turned to MDLIVE for Couples Therapy
Overall, my partner and I have a healthy, happy relationship. But like all couples, there are good and not-so-good times. We started house-hunting in May, a process filled with both excitement and overwhelming stress. And, to be honest, a few heated arguments. Any big change is bound to be stressful, and with the current real estate market, that normal stress has only been exacerbated.
In Search of a Marriage Tune-Up, We Turned to Amwell Couples Therapy
My husband and I have been married for 15 years and together for 20. Like many couples, we tend to have the same arguments over and over, but we've also gone through some major things over the past few years: a pandemic, a child in treatment for leukemia, and all of our family moving nearby, to name a few. As the dust settles from much of that, we have plenty to work through. We agreed that a marriage tune-up would be a good idea.
Dating Over 40? 9 Expert-Approved Tips for Putting Yourself Back Out There
Dating over 40 looks undeniably different than dating in your 20s, or even 30s. Society tells us we're supposed to have found "the one" when we're young (whatever that means) but that's nonsense! Everyone has their own path when it comes to finding love—there is no right or wrong time frame. Granted, our lives beyond 40 are almost always more complex and we need to be mindful throughout the process.
What Happens In Your Brain When You Fall In Love?
Love is that famous four-letter word that has inspired countless songs and sonnets. But what is it about this powerful emotion that makes our hearts thump, minds race, and palms sweat?. "Love is a powerful feeling, and it is often a little different depending on what a person is giving...
I Wanted to Find a Therapist With My Values So I Tried TherapyDen
I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist who strives to be inclusive and to see the good in all people and identities. I wanted to find a therapist who has a similar belief system, so I turned to TherapyDen, an online therapy directory that’s always appealed to me as it sort of flies under the radar in the online therapy world.
My Teen Tried Amwell Online Therapy—and Learned Skills He Can Use for Years
This summer, I realized a profound shift in my household dynamic. My middle child is entering her senior year, while her little brother, the baby of the family, is starting high school. With so many transitions, including the stress of the upcoming school year, and the unknown of what his high school experience will entail, I thought it would be a good time to gauge his interest in talking to a therapist. He has done so before and came out of that experience with positive results. He agreed, but a significant hurdle proved to be the timing of appointments. With summer sunrise practice times and a packed work schedule for me, we had limited availability to travel to an office.
11 Cozy Fall Date Ideas to Try (Because It's Everyone's Favorite Season)
Ahhh autumn! Probably the best season for romance. The sweltering months of summer are over and it finally feels like you'd want to cuddle up next to someone again. Not to mention there are apples ripe for the picking, pumpkins to carve, and a spectrum of vibrant leaves to peep. It's cool and crisp and everything smells like cinnamon. Who wouldn't want to take advantage of this time and get a little closer to your special someone?
All Couples That Last Do These 5 Things, According to a Relationship Coach
Discovering your person can feel like a dream come true. That’s why it may catch you off guard when fear unexpectedly creeps in. Intrusive thoughts arise: Would they love me if they really knew me? Is this relationship too good to be true? Will they leave me? Can this last forever? While the anxiety may feel overwhelming, this fear often accompanies relationships and doesn’t necessarily signal problems. Love inherently carries a dual nature–when you’ve met the person you’ve always wanted, that means you now have something to lose.
Breaking Down the Most Important Elements of a Healthy Sex Life
When it comes to sex and intimacy, we all have different needs. Regardless of what works for us on an individual level, however, there are some universal truths that are essential to maintaining any kind of sexual relationship—and pleasure is just the tip of the iceberg (pun intended). A...
It's Time to Stop Playing Mind Games While Dating
So many of us are guilty of playing little mind games while dating, but most of us also don't realize just how problematic they are. Think back to your early days of dating: It's the day after a great first date and you're rehashing the details with your friends. After getting their collective approval you pick up your phone to text your new crush but one of your friends interrupts you, "Wait, don't text them right away, let them sweat a little!" Another friend chimes in, "Yes! Give it a day or two so you don't seem too eager, just play it cool".
Therapy Wasn’t Providing Strategies to Manage My Mental Health, So I Tried the Real App
After trying online therapy off and on for the past year, I have started to feel like it might not be the most effective way to support my mental health. I’m a very impatient person who knows what specific issues I want help with. I’ve found it usually takes me at least three sessions before I feel like my therapist has become familiar enough with me and my concerns to offer helpful insights. But that meant spending a couple of weeks and hundreds of dollars to get to that point. I realized I was looking more for on-the-spot tools that would not set me back so much financially.
