    School resource officer struck near Vestavia Hills elementary school

    VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. ( WIAT ) — An officer is recovering after being struck by a vehicle Friday, the Vestavia Hills Police Department reports.

    At around 11:15 a.m., an unnamed school resource officer with VHPD was struck at an intersection near Vestavia Hills Elementary Liberty Park.

    Jefferson County Schools still needs bus drivers, special education teachers

    According to a press release, the officer was on traffic duty after a development event for Vestavia Hills City School employees.

    The officer was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They are expected to make a full recovery. No further information is available at this time.
