While visiting the French city for the Olympic games, the 23-time Grand Slam champion claims to have been turned away from The Peninsula while out with her two children.

“Yikes @peninsulaparis I’ve been denied access to [a] rooftop to eat in a empty restaurant of nicer places (melting face emoji) but never with my kids,” wrote the 42-year-old Monday (Aug. 5) on X. “Always a first. (rolling eye emoji).”

The restaurant also used social media to respond with their version of events, as well as an apology to the Compton, Calif. native.

“Dear Mrs. Williams, Please accept our deepest apologies for the disappointment you encountered tonight,” the eatery responded to Williams’ post. “Unfortunately, our rooftop bar was indeed fully booked and the only unoccupied tables you saw belonged to our gourmet restaurant, L’Oiseau Blanc, which was fully reserved.”

A second post continued, “We have always been honored to welcome you and will always be to welcome you again.”

According to the hotel website, the L’Oiseau Blanc is an elegant and chic dining experience with two Michelin stars.

Speaking to Variety, a staff member of the restaurant offered their point of view, although they were not working at the time of the alleged incident.

“When she came there were only two tables available and they had been reserved by clients of the hotel,” detailed Maxime Mannevy. “My colleague didn’t recognize her and feels terrible, but he told her what he would have told any other client, which is to wait downstairs in the bar for a table to become available. That was absolutely nothing personal.”
